Frequently asked questions

How Fermenty works. Pricing and billing live in Pro.

Batches and follow-up

How do I start a batch?

Pick the ferment, tell it how warm your kitchen is and what volume you want, and the mentor formulates: the amounts for your volume and the window of days it comes into its prime. From there the batch is under way, with its steps and its alerts.

Why a window and not an exact day?

Because an exact day would be a lie. Fermentation depends mostly on temperature: every 10 °C warmer doubles the speed. The window says when to start tasting and when it goes past — and it moves when your conditions change, or when you taste and tell us how it's going. How the mentor calculates

Can I cut before or after the window?

Yes — the prime is yours to decide: it's your palate. The window is a calculated recommendation, not an alarm. If you cut earlier or later and log it, the mentor learns from that for next time.

Can I pause a batch?

Yes. From the batch you can pause it and the follow-up stops; when you resume, it picks up where it was. Handy when you move a ferment to the cold or you're away for a few days.

How do I log pH, temperature or a tasting?

The batch has quick logging: pH, temperature, a measurement or an observation. And the important part — when you log a tasting, the prediction shifts that same day: it doesn't just sit there as a note.

Alerts

When does Fermenty warn me?

When there's something to do: your window opens, it's worth tasting, gas needs releasing or it should go to the cold. Safety warnings — pressure in the bottle, alcohol nearing the limit, margin running out — always arrive, on the free plan too.

What if I don't want that many emails?

You choose how to get them: each alert as it happens, a daily summary at the hour you pick, or urgent ones only. Urgent things never wait for a summary; the rest gets grouped.

I'm not getting alerts

Check that you have an active batch and that you allowed notifications in the browser. If you denied them, alerts still arrive by email: none of them depends on push alone.

Ferments and recipes

Which ferments can I make?

Kombucha, water kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi and vinegar have their full guide; ginger bug, ginger beer and pickles are on the way. Each guide brings the process, the ingredients and a range of days.

How many batches can I have at once?

Two active on the free plan, forever. With Pro they're unlimited. Nothing is deleted if you go back to free: those over the limit become read-only until you finish them. See the plans

Can I try the calculation without an account?

Yes. The kombucha tuner is the same engine that formulates inside the app, it's open and it doesn't ask for your email. Open the tuner

Account

How do I change my details or preferences?

In your profile you can change your name, photo, language and how you want to get alerts.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. From your profile you request deletion and get an email to confirm it — so nobody can delete your account from a session you left open. You can export your history first.

Is my data mine?

Yes. We don't sell data and there's no advertising in Fermenty.
